Recruitment Newsletter - January 2024

Can you believe it's already February?

It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming in the new year and making plans for the next few months.

The first month of the year has been a busy one for both the Recruitment and Medical People Services teams. Our penultimate cohort of internationally recruited nurses joined us at the start of the month for their OSCE preparation. Please join us in welcoming them to the UK and wishing them the best of luck for their OSCE studies!

We are also thrilled to welcome 18 new doctors to the trust, marking an ongoing expansion of our talented team. Among the new additions, we're proud to announce the arrival of two locum consultants specialising in acute internal medicine. Furthermore, we're excited to welcome a substantive consultant in gastroenterology. This role is often challenging to fill, and we are fortunate to have found a highly qualified professional to join the Trust.

We also welcomed a further 79 new colleagues to SaTH this month, including 10 new starters into our Domestic Services team. They work around the clock ensuring our hospital sites maintain high standards of cleanliness, in line with Infection Prevention Control guidance.

Julie O'Donoghue, Cleanliness Manager, is really proud and excited to welcome all to the team; "We know each person is going to be an asset to the team and the Trust. All our new starters receive training so they can hit the ground running, and we also offer progression opportunities and further career development in the form of NVQs for those who would like to." The cleanliness team are now looking to recruit to their morning shifts. You can find out more about this role on our website.

International Day of Education took place on 24th January. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and share all the wonderful education opportunities here at SaTH, including apprenticeships, preceptorship and our library services.

As part of our continuous effort to improve and reflect on our practices, Medical People Services organised an August induction meeting within the department. This allowed us to assess what went well last year and identify areas for improvement this year. The insights gained will guide us as we plan for the induction of new doctors in August 2024.

Additionally, to tackle the challenge of filling hard-to-fill roles, we've established a partnership with the esteemed agency, Indigo Healthcare. This collaboration will help us exclusively address medical positions that are difficult to recruit to, ensuring that we have the right professionals in place to deliver exceptional patient care.

We are excited to share that SaTH has been recognised for a national case study on recruitment and promoting specialist grade doctors. This is a fabulous opportunity to showcase all the benefits of joining our medical teams!

January also saw the re-introduction of smartcard photos at ID checks. All new staff to join the Trust will receive a Smartcard, and by taking your photo at your ID check this will help avoid any unneccessary delays in issuing the card to you. This means that all staff should now receive their Smartcard ready for their first day. So, get photo ready for your ID checks!

Also in January, Shropshire was named one of ABTAs 10 global destinations to watch in 2024. Check out our 10 reasons to relocate to our beautiful county, and come and join us at SaTH!

And finally, working in collaboration with the wider Integrated Care System (ICS) we will be attending the Telford Skills Show on 14th March. This event is open to all and will give you the opportunity to meet employers from across the system, ask questions and get hands on with some medical equipment! Reserve your place now (it's free to attend).
