Healthcare Scientists - Clinical Vascular Scientist

Radiology

  • The role involves carrying out and reporting specialist vascular ultrasound scans on patients of all ages.
  • You will use your expert skills to understand scan results and help guide the next steps in a patient’s care.
  • You will support patients and their families by explaining tests and offering reassurance in a calm and professional way.
  • You will work across both hospital sites and be part of a wider team that includes sonographers, doctors and nurses.
  • You will help train others, take part in audits and meetings, and support the development of the vascular ultrasound service.
  • You will also use advanced equipment safely and accurately, while managing a busy workload and maintaining high standards of patient care.

Healthcare Scientists - Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist

Biochemistry

  • Help manage a specialist section of the laboratory and support senior staff with daily tasks.
  • Lead and guide a team, making sure work is done safely and correctly.
  • Use expert knowledge to carry out and check complex lab tests, and give advice when needed.
  • Train other staff and help them learn new skills in your area of work.
  • Make sure equipment and testing methods are working well and help choose new ones.
  • Work to improve the service and support other parts of the department when needed.

Healthcare Scientists - Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Microbiology

Microbiology Department

  • The role supports the delivery of vital diagnostic tests in the microbiology laboratory. It involves carrying out a wide range of laboratory procedures safely and accurately, working both alone and as part of a team.
  • The post holder will rotate through different areas, take responsibility for their own work, and help guide or train other staff.
  • They will also step in for senior staff when needed and may lead a section of the department.
  • The job includes taking part in the seven-day and on-call service, including working out of hours.
  • The role requires keeping high quality standards, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the smooth running of the laboratory at all times. 

Salary: £39,959.00 – £48,117 per annum Closing Date: 23/04/2026 Job Ref: 223-SBM-089-A Location: The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, although occasional travel to The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford may be required Contract: 6 month Fixed term / secondment (until September 2026) Hours: 37.5 hours per week (plus participation in weekend, on-call, late shifts and bank holiday rotas)

Healthcare Scientists - Biomedical Scientist

Microbiology

  • The role supports the microbiology team by helping to carry out laboratory tests safely and accurately.
  • It involves performing a range of technical procedures, following written instructions and checking that results are correct before they are reported.
  • The post holder will work both independently and as part of a team, helping to supervise and support junior staff.
  • They will keep clear records, use quality systems and help maintain high laboratory standards.
  • The role also includes ongoing training, rotating through different areas of the department and working flexibly to support a seven‑day service.

Salary: £32,073.00 – £39,043 per annum Closing Date: 23/04/2026 Job Ref: 223-BMT-292 Location: The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Contract: Fixed term for 12 months Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Healthcare Scientists - Clinical Technologist (Dosimetrist)

Medical Physics Team

  • The role involves helping with treatment planning and mould room services, which support radiotherapy for patients.
  • You will make special shells and devices that keep patients still during treatment, and help plan safe and effective radiation treatments.
  • You will work with senior staff to supervise services, give advice, and support improvements in how care is delivered. Training and professional registration will be required, with support provided to achieve this.
  • You will also help train and guide junior staff, and take part in research and development projects.
  • The job requires careful attention to detail, good communication with patients and staff, and a commitment to high standards of safety and quality.
