Healthcare Scientists - Specialist Biomedical Scientist

Blood Sciences

  •  The role supports the hospital’s diagnostic service by carrying out complex laboratory tests and checking results to make sure they are accurate.
  • You will work across different areas of Blood Sciences, becoming skilled in Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion so the service can run safely at all times.
  • You will work independently, help lead others during busy or out‑of‑hours shifts, and support junior staff through training and guidance.
  • You will take responsibility for your own section of work, keep clear records, follow quality and safety standards, and help maintain accreditation.
  • You will help solve technical problems, look after specialist equipment and make sure stock levels are maintained.
  • You will take part in an out‑of‑hours rota, sometimes working alone, and make decisions that keep the service running smoothly and safely. 

Salary: £39,959.00 – £48,117 per annum Closing Date: 11/06/2026 Job Ref: 223-SPB-189-A Location: The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Contract: 6 months (Fixed term/secondment ICE/LIMS project for Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion) Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (7 day working including weekends, nights and bank holidays)

Healthcare Scientists - Clinical Vascular Scientist

Radiology

  • The role involves carrying out and reporting specialist vascular ultrasound scans on patients of all ages.
  • You will use your expert skills to understand scan results and help guide the next steps in a patient’s care.
  • You will support patients and their families by explaining tests and offering reassurance in a calm and professional way.
  • You will work across both hospital sites and be part of a wider team that includes sonographers, doctors and nurses.
  • You will help train others, take part in audits and meetings, and support the development of the vascular ultrasound service.
  • You will also use advanced equipment safely and accurately, while managing a busy workload and maintaining high standards of patient care.
