Healthcare Scientists - Clinical Vascular Scientist

Radiology

  • The role involves carrying out and reporting specialist vascular ultrasound scans on patients of all ages.
  • You will use your expert skills to understand scan results and help guide the next steps in a patient’s care.
  • You will support patients and their families by explaining tests and offering reassurance in a calm and professional way.
  • You will work across both hospital sites and be part of a wider team that includes sonographers, doctors and nurses.
  • You will help train others, take part in audits and meetings, and support the development of the vascular ultrasound service.
  • You will also use advanced equipment safely and accurately, while managing a busy workload and maintaining high standards of patient care.

Healthcare Scientists - Medical Laboratory Assistant - Blood Sciences

Pathology - Blood Sciences

  • You are required to work under direct or indirect supervision at all times.
  • You are expected to liaise with other members of staff in Pathology, and similarly with other users of the service both within and outside the confines of the Trust.
  • You may be required to work at any of the department’s laboratory sites.
  • You will be expected to become competent in new areas of work that have comparable levels of responsibility to those of your existing duties (e.g. with respect to new service developments such as the integration of histology and non gynaecological cytology)

Healthcare Scientists - Audiologist Band 5

Audiology Department

  • Carry out hearing assessments and provide hearing aid support for adults in clinics and community settings.
  • Use specialist equipment to test hearing, fit hearing aids and keep accurate patient records.
  • Explain test results and treatment options clearly to patients, families and carers.
  • Work closely with doctors, nurses and other teams to provide safe and joined-up patient care.
  • Follow professional guidelines and use good judgement to make sure patients receive high-quality care.
  • Take part in training, appraisals and service improvement to continue developing skills and knowledge.

Healthcare Scientists - Radiotherapy Engineering Apprentice

Medical Physics Team

  • The role is a three-year apprenticeship where you work towards a Healthcare Science Practitioner Degree in Radiation Engineering. 
  • You will learn how to help maintain, test and repair radiotherapy and medical equipment in a hospital. 
  • You will work mainly at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but may visit other hospitals to gain experience. 
  • You will support engineers with tasks like equipment checks, repairs, record keeping and making radiotherapy aids. 
  • You will learn to work safely, follow health and safety rules and communicate well with different hospital teams.
  • To be offered a full-time job at the end, you must complete the degree and show you can carry out all parts of the role confidently.
