We are looking for enthusiastic Emergency Medicine Consultants with sub-speciality paediatric qualification to work at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. This is an exciting challenge for Emergency Medicine Consultants who are keen to get involved in delivering care on the front line in a designated trauma unit but also a fantastic opportunity to share and contribute your expertise into the design of a brand-new Emergency Centre.

The main aim of these posts is to work with other senior medical and nursing staff to deliver first-class Emergency Medicine services for the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales areas.

The job attracts a 10 PA contract, 7.5 clinical (1PA for OC activities) and 2.5 SPA. Additional PAs are available with agreement from the Clinical Director and Operations Manager and will be renewable on a yearly basis.

Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.

A full-time Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist is required for a Maternity Leave cover Fixed Term post at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and expected to start in May 2026. 

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for a permanent Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with interest in IBD who will be predominantly based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with responsibilities across both hospitals’ sites.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent locally employed acute paediatrician with interest in paediatric cardiology. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the biggest development of Children’s services that the County has seen. You will become part of a team and will work in what is one of the largest acute District General Hospital Paediatric departments in the County serving a catchment population of over 0.5 million.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for a fixed term Locally Employed Doctor in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care who will be based at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford for the on-call element of the role but with responsibilities across both hospitals’ sites during normal working hours.

Duties will principally involve supported cover of elective theatre sessions, an on-call commitment to the Intensive Care Unit and occasional daytime work in emergency theatres/ obstetric theatres and delivery suite.

The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine to enable the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to further improve its stroke service and deliver 7-day working. Each post attracts 10 Programmed Activities.  The stroke specialists have no GIM requirement but do participate in a 1 in 6 out of hours stroke thrombolysis rota (telephonic) as well as weekend stroke unit ward rounds and TIA clinics thus providing a 7-day stroke service.

There will be opportunities to participate in weekend ward rounds and out of hours stroke on-call rota, under consultant supervision.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director/Lead and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week (not inc on call PAs). The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the doctor's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a doctor's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.

For a full-time contract, the job plan will be divided on average per week (pro-rata for a part time post) as: 
• 9 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care (includes 1.3 PAs on call) - includes clinical activity, clinically related activity and predictable and unpredictable emergency work. 
• 1 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) - includes CPD, audit, teaching and research. 
• Out of Hours Activity – attracts 1.23 PA’s, 1:6 non resident, attracting a 2% supplement. 

The allocation of PAs is reviewed and may be subject to adjustment when a further diary exercise is undertaken or if the service demands a review of the team job plan.

Any applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with other consultant colleagues.

•    7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care - includes clinical activity, clinically related activity and predictable and unpredictable emergency work. Clinic templates are for 3.5 hours to allow 0.5 hours for additional clinic related admin (phone calls, time to admit from clinic) within the 1 PA allocated
•    2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) - includes CPD, audit, teaching and research. 1.5 of these will be to support revalidation. The remaining are to be directed at Trust priorities and might include educational supervision, lead roles, and other activities to be reviewed annually as part of the job planning process. SPA time sufficient for quality assurance activities will be provided. Consultants may carry out a maximum of one SPA session off site at a time suited to their individual timetable and in keeping with the requirements of the activities. Direct Clinical Care PA time will be sufficient to deal with the clinical admin generated by inpatient, outpatient and endoscopic activity
•    Out of Hours Activity - There will be a requirement to take part in an on call rota primarily for GI bleeds with a frequency of approximately 1 in 10. Weekend on call will require on site input on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as an on call from home to advise on other Gastroenterological cases emergencies at other times.

A Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in Breast and Colorectal cancers is required for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. However other tumour sites would be considered. This post is a replacement appointment which attracts 10 Programmed Activities and an on-call supplement.

Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.
