Estates

Our estates services staff look after our hospital buildings and the grounds around them. Like any buildings, our hospitals need repairs and regular maintenance. As the needs of the NHS change, existing buildings need to be extended or renovated and new sites built. The building needs to be looked after – walls, floors and windows – as well as the systems inside them – heating, power and ventilation.  All this work needs skilled staff, often from the construction sector.

Our hospitals need to be safe and welcoming for staff and patients. Any repairs need to be carried out to a high standard by skilled tradespeople. These roles include: carpenter/joiner jobs, electrician jobs, painter and decorator jobs, plumber jobs, as well as garden and grounds staff.

This is an exciting time to join the Trust as we have successfully secured more than £312m of investment from the Government for the reconfiguration of our two hospitals. This is your chance to be involved in a team responsible for major change within our hospitals.

Facilities

We provide a comprehensive range of facilities management services to ensure our NHS colleagues’ environments are clean, safe, warm and pleasant to work in so healthcare professionals can focus on delivering excellent patient care.

Our Facilities teams operate the cleaning, portering and catering services across the Trust, covering roles such as cleanliness technicians, porters, catering, admin and financial support and analysis.

Estates & Facilities - Assistant Estates Operations Manager (Mechanical)

Operational Estates Management

  • This role manages the day-to-day maintenance and repair of hospital buildings, equipment, and grounds to make sure everything is safe and works properly.
  • You will lead a team of in-house staff and contractors, planning and checking work to meet NHS and legal standards.
  • The job includes looking after systems like medical gases, water safety, and electrical safety, and making sure maintenance plans are followed.
  • You will manage budgets, approve spending, and find ways to work more efficiently.
  • The role also involves working with other managers, hospital teams, and outside contractors to keep services running smoothly and support patient care.

Estates & Facilities - Facilities Assistant

Domestic Services

  • This role involves keeping all areas of the hospital clean and safe by following set cleaning procedures.
  • You will help move clean linen to wards and staff accommodation.
  • You’ll use cleaning tools and chemicals safely, following health and safety rules.
  • You’ll remove waste properly and make sure warning signs are used while cleaning.
  • You’ll work across different parts of the hospital and may help train new staff.
  • You’ll also speak with patients and staff to explain your work and follow special cleaning steps when needed.

Estates & Facilities - Facilities Assistant

Domestic Services

  • The role is multi-skilled, working across Cleanliness, Catering and Portering to support hospital services.
  • Staff will work shifts including early, late, night and weekend hours as part of a rota.
  • Duties include cleaning hospital areas, transporting patients and equipment, and helping with food service for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Team members must follow health and safety rules, infection control procedures and food hygiene standards.
  • The job involves physical tasks such as lifting, moving equipment and walking long distances.
  • Staff will also provide support in emergencies and assist patients, visitors and clinical teams when needed

Salary: £24,465.00 – £24,465 per annum Closing Date: 13/01/2026 Job Ref: 223-SFA-936 Location: Shrewsbury Contract: Permanent Hours: Full time (37.5 hrs per week) and part time (30 hours per week) available

Estates & Facilities - Mechanically Biased Multi-Skilled Technician

Estates

  •  The role is for a skilled maintenance technician who mainly works on mechanical engineering tasks but also helps with other building and electrical jobs.
  • You will look after heating, plumbing, and other systems across hospital sites, making sure equipment is safe and working well.
  • The job involves finding and fixing faults, carrying out repairs, and sometimes designing or installing new work.
  • You will work both on your own and with the wider team and may step in to support managers when needed. 
  • The role includes being part of an on-call rota, responding to emergencies within 45 minutes.
  • Flexibility is important, as you may work at different sites, cover shifts, or assist other trades when required.
