Nursing and Midwifery - Parkinsons Clinical Nurse Specialist

Specialist Nurses - Parkinsons

Provide expert nursing care and support for people with Parkinson’s Disease across Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals.
Assess, plan and review care for patients with Parkinson’s Disease, including those with complex needs, from diagnosis through to end-of-life care.
Offer specialist advice, information and education to patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals to help achieve the best possible outcomes.
Work closely with doctors, nurses and other healthcare teams to coordinate care, support safe discharge and improve patient experiences.
Lead and support the development of Parkinson’s Disease services, helping to improve quality of care and introduce new ways of working
Support the learning and development of staff through education, training and clinical leadership, while promoting high standards of patient care and safety.

This role involves caring for patients and helping to lead the team on the ward or in the department.
You will support the manager by organising staff, making sure care is safe, and helping the team work well together.
You will look after patients directly, check their needs, and make sure their care plans are followed.
You will help share information with patients, families and staff, and make sure records are clear and accurate.
You will guide and support junior staff, help with training, and encourage good practice.
You will also help improve the service by supporting audits, research and new ways of working.

Act as a role model for colleagues, supervising junior staff, supporting their development and helping new team members learn and grow.
Work closely with patients, families and other healthcare professionals to ensure clear communication and a positive patient experience.
Support the Ward or Department Manager with the day-to-day running of the service, including staffing, resources, admissions and discharges.

Corporate Nursing - Quality and Patient Safety Team

Help improve the quality and safety of patient care across the Trust by supporting nursing teams and leading improvement projects.
Work with ward and department teams to put in place changes that reduce patient harm, improve patient experience, and meet national standards.
Support patient safety programmes, including work related to falls, pressure ulcers, risk assessments, and learning from incidents and complaints.
Review clinical incidents, carry out initial fact-finding, and help make sure the right actions are taken to keep patients safe.
Provide advice, training, and support to staff, helping teams use best practice and improve the care they provide.
Collect information, carry out audits, and prepare reports to help measure progress and support ongoing improvements across the Trust.

Specialist Midwives

Lead work to help make maternity services fair, inclusive and easy to access for all women, birthing people and families, especially those who may face additional challenges or barriers to care.
Provide specialist support for women and families experiencing health inequalities, helping them access the right care, information and support at the right time.
Work closely with maternity teams, community organisations and other healthcare professionals to improve pregnancy, birth and family outcomes for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups.
Help design, develop and evaluate a continuity of carer service, ensuring women and birthing people receive personalised, consistent support throughout their maternity journey.
Promote equality, diversity and inclusion across maternity services by supporting staff, raising awareness of inequalities and helping create a positive and inclusive working environment.
Use feedback, research and service data to identify areas for improvement, develop new ways of working and ensure maternity care is safe, effective and centred around the needs of women and families.

This role is based in the Research & Innovation Department at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
You will help find and support patients who take part in research studies, including checking if they can join and helping them understand what’s involved.
You will look after patients during their time in the study, including helping with appointments, collecting samples, and entering data.
You will work with doctors, nurses, and other staff to make sure everything runs smoothly.
You will also help teach others about research and keep learning new skills yourself.
You may need to travel between hospital sites or into the community as part of your work.
