We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistants to support Ward 23 Oncology & Haematology at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  This is due to progression within our existing team. 

The ward is busy and you will need to be able to work under pressure at times and  to be able to cope with working in what can sometimes be an emotive environment.  You will work within the established nursing team on Ward 23 alongside registered nurses, healthcare assistants and therapy staff providing care to patients on the ward. 

You will deliver personal care as needed for the patients and will need to have a kind and compassionate nature. This is a lovely and rewarding role requiring commitment to providing a high quality of care for our oncology and haematology patients.   You will get to know our patients and their relatives well and develop a good rapport with them to support their needs.

Nursing and Midwifery - Higher Level Advanced Clinical Practitioner – Respiratory

Acute Medicine (ACP) Team

The Respiratory Medicine department currently has a stable workforce of 12 ½ permanent WTE consultants with 6 ½ at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and 6 at the Princess Royal Hospital. Outpatient new referrals approximately 3k – 3.5k per annum shared between colleagues at both Hospitals. Respiratory inpatients approximate between 28 and 40 patients at each site at any given time. RSH and PRH has a dedicated Respiratory Ward with Consultants rotating onto wards and attending outliers on allied wards or providing clinical opinions for inpatient Respiratory referrals (10 to 20 per week at each site). Acute Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), High-flow nasal Oxygen/Airvo, CPAP and pleural ultrasound are available on the Respiratory wards and there is a Respiratory Specialist Unit at the Shrewsbury site. There are Specialist Nurses in General Respiratory Medicine, tuberculosis (TB), lung cancer and cystic fibrosis. There is a community-based supported discharge scheme for COPD patients within in-reach at both sites. There are clinical pathways for prescribing nebulised and intravenous antibiotics for bronchiectasis and access to pulmonary rehabilitation in several venues across the County. A bridging service to chronic NIV is currently available with plans to introduce a chronic NIV service in-house. A domiciliary Sleep Service is available on both sites. A pleural list is currently performed on the Telford site by Consultants and respiratory ACPs from both sites.

Nursing and Midwifery - Consultant in Breast Surgery

Breast Surgery

The successful candidate would be joining the Breast multidisciplinary team providing Breast services covering Shropshire and Mid Wales. The post holder would provide support to General Breast cancer services, including those referred from the screening programme.

The role would have an emphasis on Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, a service which was established here in 2011. The necessary resources are available to provide this. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in continuing medical education and audit and provide teaching to members of the professional and nursing staff within the hospital, as well as medical students. Those candidates with an interest in research will of course be encouraged.
