This post covers the role of the BCN in  the breast screening service for Shropshire, Telford, and The Wrekin. The ability to deal with complex and difficult emotional situations is vital.

The post holder will work with other Breast Care Nurses, supporting breast screening clients throughout the screening and assessment processes. Clear communication of reasons for recall to assessment within a holistic care assessment in a sensitive and empathic manner is essential.

Ensure there is continuity of specialised nursing support for individual screening clients, symptomatic patients and their family / carer at key and significant stages in their pathway and to ensure care is co-ordinated.

The post will involve supporting and working alongside the team to deliver the Small Bowel and Colon Capsule Endoscopy Services.

You will be responsible for the pre-assessment of patients including working to a PGD for bowel preparation and consenting of patients undergoing these procedures. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the SDEC Manager with the continuous improvement of the department, effectively monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of care that are reflected by patient experience.  Sound clinical knowledge and experience in an acute setting is essential.

You must have a proven ability in supervising, managing and controlling the activities of a department in an efficient and effective manner.  This will involve the assessment and implementation of appropriate care for new and current patients whilst ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained and resources used appropriately.

Showing commitment and direction to the team as a whole you will actively participate in the teaching, training and supervision of all grades of staff.  You will be required to be receptive to change, be dynamic and demonstrate active assistance and support to your more senior colleagues in the ongoing development of the department.

You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting.  You must be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload.
