Equal Opportunities

We are committed to equal opportunities in employment. Our policies and practices aim to promote an environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and values the diversity of all people.

Information submitted on your application form, such as information on race, gender, age, disabilities etc. is used for reporting only. The appointing manager and shortlisters won’t be able to see this information.

Please note we can not accept CVs, therefore an application must be submitted to be considered for the post.

Application process

All our current vacancies will be advertised on our own SaTH Jobs site, NHS Jobs and via HealthJobsUK. Trac is the recruitment system we use, and you will need to create an account to apply for a role with us.

The application form has several sections, please try to complete these fully and accurately. When completing your application, use the person specification. The appointing manager will shortlist based on the essential and desirable criteria for the role, so make sure to include your relevant skills and experience in your application.

Most of our vacancies will be advertised for 2 weeks, although in case of high applications roles may close early. We recommend applying early to avoid disappointment.

Read our How to apply guidance for further support with applying for a role with us.

Shortlisting

Once the role has closed, the appointing manager aims to complete shortlisting within 5 working days. Sometimes this may not always be possible, especially if we have received a high number of applications for the role.

The short listers will review your application and score

Shortlisting is completely anonymous. No personal details will be visible on your application at this point.

Once shortlisting has been completed, you will receive an email to let you know whether you have been invited to interview. Most of the communications will be via email, so it’s important that you provide the correct email address on your application.

Guaranteed interview schemes

If you have declared a disability, that you are a member of the Armed Forces community, or a Care system leaver, you will be guaranteed an interview if you meet at least the minimum essential criteria for the job.

Interview

If you are shortlisted, you will then be invited to attend an interview. This may in person at one of our hospital sites, or online via Teams. The invitation will be emailed to you and will include details of the interview, such as time, date, venue and any additional assessments that will form part of the interview.

You will need to book your interview time via your Trac account, which you can access through a link in the above email.

Reasonable adjustments

When you book your interview, you will have the opportunity to let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may require for the interview, due to a disability. These will be accommodated where possible, for example – a ground floor location or additional time for any assessment. Please make sure you let us know of your requirement at this stage.

Job offer

If you are successful at interview, you will receive a phone call from the appointing manager to verbally offer you the role. If you accept, the appointing manager will then update Trac, and the recruitment team will send you a conditional offer letter via email.

The conditional offer letter will provide the details of the post, and outline the pre-employment checks you’ll need to complete. These checks are guided by NHS Employers standards and must be completed before you can start working with us. They include:

  • Identity check
  • Right to work check
  • Criminal records check: depending on the role, you may be required to complete a disclosure and barring check (DBS).
  • Qualifications
  • Professional registration
  • Occupational Health
  • References: we are required to gain references to cover the last 3 years, for any employment and education you have held during this time.

Please do not hand in your notice to your current employer until all of your pre-employment checks are completed.

Starting

Once all checks are completed, we will contact you to let you know to arrange a start date with your manager. We’ll also complete the required paperwork and issue your contract.

You will be sent a link to access our online onboarding portal, which contains useful information to help you settle in during your first few weeks with us.
