Clinical Support - Dialysis Assistant

Renal Dialysis Unit

• The role supports the dialysis team by helping with patient care during haemodialysis and preparing equipment and supplies.

• It involves keeping the clinical area clean and stocked, setting up and cleaning dialysis machines and helping with basic patient needs.

• The post holder will assist with pre-dialysis checks, monitor patients during treatment and report any concerns to nursing staff.

• They will learn to carry out dialysis tasks under supervision and complete the Renal Unit Accreditation Programme.

• The role also requires good communication, teamwork and a kind, respectful approach to patients and families.

Clinical Support - Radiology Assistant

X-Ray Department

  • Provide support and care to patients, relatives and visitors during their time in the Radiology Department.
  • Help move and prepare patients safely for their X‑ray or scan, working closely with radiographers and other staff.
  • Use hospital computer systems to record patient details and keep accurate paper and electronic records.
  • Look after equipment, report any problems, and follow all safety rules, including those for radiation and infection control.
  • Work as part of a busy team, communicating clearly with patients and staff, and helping during out‑of‑hours shifts when needed.
  • Keep the department clean and safe, while maintaining patient privacy and staying calm in emotional or challenging situations.

Clinical Support - Healthcare Assistant - Head and Neck

Ward 8 Head and Neck

  • This role supports ward teams by helping patients with everyday care such as washing, eating, drinking and using the toilet.
  • You will check and record basic health observations and report any concerns to a nurse.
  • You will help keep patients safe and comfortable by moving them correctly, keeping the ward tidy and preparing equipment.
  • You will also support nurses with simple administrative tasks like updating records and answering the phone.
  • You will follow training, work within Trust policies and communicate kindly with patients, families and staff.
  • You will manage your own tasks during each shift and help create a calm, clean and supportive environment

Clinical Support - Housekeeper - Theatres PRH

Theatres Department (PRH)

  • The role supports the theatre team by helping with daily non-clinical tasks under the guidance of senior staff.
  • It involves keeping the working areas clean, tidy and safe for patients and staff at all times.
  • You will help look after equipment and supplies, making sure items are stored properly and restocked when needed.
  • The job includes reporting faults, helping to arrange repairs and supporting the smooth running of the department.
  • You will share information from meetings, answer phone calls politely and use basic computer skills to record simple details.
  • The role requires good communication, teamwork and a willingness to help different staff groups when needed.

Clinical Support - Maternity Care Assistant - Maternity Scanning Department

Maternity

  • The role supports midwives and the wider maternity team to give safe, caring support to women and their babies.
  • It involves helping with personal care, basic clinical tasks and record keeping under the supervision of a midwife, as described in the document: “it is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MCA assists with and provides personal care.”
  • The job is rotational, so the post holder will work in different maternity areas and receive training for each setting, including antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.
  • The role includes keeping women safe, noticing concerns and reporting them quickly, which reflects the requirement to “report any safeguarding concerns.”
  • It also involves supporting families with feeding, newborn care and day‑to‑day needs, helping them feel confident and informed.
  • Training and development are an important part of the job, and the post holder is expected to learn new skills and complete set competencies, as stated: “The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies.”

Clinical Support - Radiotherapy Engineering Apprentice

Radiotherapy

  • The role is a three-year apprenticeship where you work towards a Healthcare Science Practitioner Degree in Radiation Engineering.
  • You will learn how to help maintain, test and repair radiotherapy and medical equipment in a hospital.
  • You will work mainly at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but may visit other hospitals to gain experience.
  • You will support engineers with tasks like equipment checks, repairs, record keeping and making radiotherapy aids.
  • You will learn to work safely, follow health and safety rules and communicate well with different hospital teams.
  • To be offered a full-time job at the end, you must complete the degree and show you can carry out all parts of the role confidently.
