Meet our Staff: Pharmacy Team

The Pharmacy Team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital are a fun, friendly and sociable crowd.

With a rounders team, running club, and departmental bake-offs, it’s a great team to join! We are looking for people to join our highly motivated clinical pharmacy team, committed to delivering a forward-focused pharmacy service, built around our patients.

The department offers a comprehensive range of services and specialities and provides an ideal base to enable pharmacists to further develop their professional and clinical skills. There are great prospects for everyone, regardless of experience and qualifications.

Meet some of our fantastic team below:

Linda Robinson - Homecare Pharmacist

Lady wearing black uniform tunic with a name badge, She is smiling. My name is Linda Robinson and I am the Homecare Pharmacist working within the Pharmacy department at SaTH.

I have worked here since July 2006 when I transferred back into the NHS from the private health sector.

I wanted to refresh my skills in dealing with acutely ill patients and initially joined the medicines management team on the wards reviewing patients' medication on admission and discharge and offering medicines advice to patients and staff throughout their stay.

After 13 years I wanted a new challenge, and I now work within the Homecare Team ensuring the safe delivery of high cost medication to patients directly to their homes.

It is extremely varied, working with both clinical teams and homecare providers. The most rewarding aspect is delivering new, highly effective innovative medication to help control chronic conditions, as well as treatment for patients suffering with cancer.

I have lived in Shrewsbury most of my life, only leaving to complete my Pharmacy degree and work for a time in Cardiff, before returning to work at SaTH. Shrewsbury is a lively market town with some lovely independent shops and restaurants, and is surrounded by some beautiful countryside. On my days off I enjoy heading to the hills or woodland for a scenic walk with our 2 dogs or taking a walk into the town centre for a coffee or bite to eat.

If you enjoy working as part of a friendly, collaborative team then SaTH has many opportunities to offer.

Kate Lindsey - Advanced Specialist Pharmacist for Cancer Services

Woman wearing black pharmacist uniform

I’m an 8a Pharmacist working in the Cancer Services Team. I work full time (37.5 hours per week) plus Emergency Duty Cover.

I moved into the role after spending some time as a rotational Band 7 and deciding that I wanted a step up with more responsibility. I didn’t have any particular experience or qualifications related to oncology or haematology when I took on the role, but I’ve learned so much as I’ve gone along. The team were really supportive and helped me to learn, and I attended an Introduction to Oncology course as well. Last year I completed my Independent Prescribing course, specialising in myeloproliferative disorders.

We have a team of five pharmacists, assisted by a medicines management technician and an ATO who takes care of stock levels in the patient areas.

The role is pretty varied, which makes it interesting and there’s always something new to learn. Our team provides cover to the cancer ward, supplying medication, counselling patients and supporting the nurses, doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team by answering queries. We also provide support to the outpatient haematology and oncology units.

The team screens every single chemotherapy prescription that is prescribed for SaTH patients to ensure patient safety. There are always new treatments for cancer coming through, and the team is responsible for setting up prescriptions and policies so they are used safely and appropriately. Many of these treatments are very expensive, with funding coming from different national sources, and we need to confirm that this is documented correctly.

We also work closely with lots of different healthcare professionals, which is a really fulfilling part of the job.
