We have an exciting full time opportunity, for a Ward Manager on one of our new modular wards at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The successful applicant must have excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills and be approachable and supportive to work effectively as part of the team.

We are looking to recruit someone who will role model high clinical and professional standards, who is enthusiastic, kind and able to provide safe and compassionate nursing care to acutely unwell patients. You will be supported with a period of induction and encouraged to pursue your interests through further training and development opportunities at the Trust.

If you are an accomplished sister/charge nurse in your field keen to share the expertise you have gained in a Surgical/Gastro setting, this post offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your clinical skills and contribute to the management of the ward.

Main duties of the job

As a clinical expert and role model, you will be required to manage a team of nurses and healthcare assistants, closely monitoring the progression of their clinical skills and encouraging their professional development. Able to identify and develop the potential in others.

On a day-to-day basis, you will be relied upon to assume direct responsibility for the smooth running of the ward and providing a high-quality service to patients, co-ordinating care and prioritising the team's workload. A visible and authoritative presence able to lead and manage the team and patient care, co-ordinating with the MDT to enable outstanding care to be given every time within available resources.

We will have two new 28 bedded surgical wards, that will work collaboratively to provide care for patients with a variety of colorectal surgery conditions including elective, acute, high dependency post ITU and emergencies. Both wards will also care for gastroenterology patients. Including hepatology, hepatobiliary, pancreatic disease & patients with enhanced nutritional needs.

We offer opportunities, with a variety of acutely unwell patients passing through the unit. Our leadership course & staff management courses will help you develop the skills needed to lead & motivate the team to provide excellent care. We also offer 1:1 supervision & band 7 networking. Opportunities for mentorship & preceptorship with our placement students & newly qualified nurses.
