We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse on the Elective Surgery Hub at Shrewsbury (SESH). The successful applicants will gain experience in caring for patients with a wide variety of Surgical conditions.
SESH is an extremely busy unit providing care to all elective surgical patients on the Shrewsbury site, both day cases and inpatients.
You will be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever changing workload.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised patient care, working in partnership with patients, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the patient’s physical, spiritual and emotional needs are met.
Formulate and deliver high quality patient care without direct supervision.
Recognise changes in patients’ conditions which require the intervention of others and ensure that timely referrals are made or escalation procedures enacted as appropriate.
Ensure patient safety is maintained at all times. Record and report adverse and potentially adverse events and assist with investigation of such events, ensuring learning is shared with the wider team(s).
Record information about patients in a safe, accurate and consistent manner using appropriate tools and techniques, including electronic and written formats as close to point of care as possible.
Access and use patient clinical diagnostic information to inform clinical decisions.

SESH has 10 inpatient beds & 14 trollies providing care for general surgical patients. We can take a variety of surgical patients from admission to discharge. The team are a friendly and motivated group of staff who believe in making the patient journey an excellent experience from start to finish.
The ward has a reputation for delivering high quality of care with a holistic approach. We work closely with a range of multi-disciplinary teams, including the Colorectal Nurse Specialist, IBD Nurse specialist, Bariatric Nurse specialist, Outreach, Nutritional Team and Vascular team.
