Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious, passionate and motivated individual to join our busy and dynamic nursing team on the Elective Orthopaedics Ward at The Princess Royal Hospital.

A dedicated elective surgical unit caring for patients undergoing  planned  orthopaedics procedure such as joint replacements and upper/lower limb operations. We focused on Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways to support early mobilisation and safe, timely discharge.

Working on a 14 -bedded elective orthopaedics ward means joining a fast-paced, highly coordinated environment focused on delivering safe, efficient, and patient centred surgical care. The role centres on supporting patients through their planned orthopaedics procedures, ensuring excellent, clinical standards, smooth patient flow. and positive recovery experience.

Main duties of the job

 Provide high‑quality nursing and clinical care to patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery.

  • Support enhanced recovery pathways to promote early mobilisation and timely discharge.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care.
  • Deliver and evaluate patient‑centred care plans, including post‑operative monitoring, wound care, and pain management.
  • Carry out regular observations and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Support physiotherapy‑led mobilisation and rehabilitation goals.
  • Administer medications safely and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Participate in daily ward rounds and contribute to discharge planning.
  • Uphold infection prevention standards and maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Provide clear communication and reassurance to patients and families throughout their surgical journey.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement and ward audits.
