An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Midwife to join the team on the Antenatal Ward and Obstetric Triage at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

Triage is the gateway to the Maternity Services in Shropshire, dealing with women from 16 weeks gestation to 28 days postnatal.

We use the Birmingham Symptom Specific Triage system to assess women as they arrive in the department and describe it as the A and E for Maternity. It is both a fast moving and exciting department to work in with ample opportunity to showcase your midwifery skills alongside the medical support.

The Antenatal ward has 13 beds and is the only Consultant Unit Antenatal Ward in Shropshire. We care for women having an induction of labor and all other women requiring high risk Antenatal Care within the consultant unit. We also have a bereavement suite where we care for women undergoing Medical Termination of Pregnancy or late Miscarriage.

The Shropshire Maternity Service offers an exciting opportunity to rotate to other departments within the service during your career, including other departments within the consultant unit and the Midwife Led Units around the County. We offer regular training in PROMPT and other yearly updates, alongside excellent educational and progression support through mentorship and coaching to develop your midwifery and leadership skills.

The Shropshire Maternity Service is experiencing an exciting period of transition and change to develop and improve the service to the women and their families whom we care for. This includes working alongside the Local Maternity System and Maternity Transformation Team to develop the recommendations from the Better Births report and will include transforming 3 of the 5 Midwife led units to Maternity Hubs in the near future.
