*INTERNAL ONLY POST*

The Healthy Pregnancy Support Service (HPSS) are looking for a Full UK professionally registered Band 5 Nurse to join our well-established, friendly team.

As a service we provide smoking cessation support to the pregnant women of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

As a public health service, we have expanded our services to include weight management support in pregnancy and a full vaccination programme delivered alongside maternity scans and clinic appointments at The Princess Royal Hospital and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

This multi-level public health service provides an exciting opportunity for a Nurse to become a band 5 Co-ordinator of the daily operation of these services and a source of support and Leadership for our Healthy pregnancy advisors. You will also be trained as a Healthy pregnancy advisor, therefore providing the opportunity to have your own caseload of women and support families to make behavioural changes to improve their health and wellbeing.

The integration of this service as part of mainstream midwifery services will ensure a seamless care pathway at a time when women are open to receiving advice and guidance around making healthy lifestyle choices, to promote a healthy pregnancy, with a positive outcome and healthy baby.

This is a full-time post with work hours between Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Main duties of the job

  • Monitor quality of service by using an agreed competency assessment framework with team practitioners and identify actions to continuously improve the service in line with the key performance indicators.
  • Ensure administration staff are working to agreed objectives and communicate effectively with them and other members of staff.
  • Work with the team lead to identify the location of the HPSS practitioners in key areas based on public health intelligence
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to maternity staff, including in relation to carbon monoxide testing.
  • Liaise, communicate and work in partnership with other key agencies to provide ongoing stop smoking support across the County.
  • Hold a caseload of women (as expected of the HPSS practitioner)
  • Provide and oversee a vaccination service

Working for our organisation

Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team —  clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising  individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a  meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
