Join our team

We are seeking a talented and dynamic individual to be the Head of Nursing for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

We believe that our values underpin everything we do and are fundamental to our success. If you are interested in joining our team please make sure our values compliment your personal values.

We now have a vacancy for Head of Nursing in our Unscheduled Care group; the purpose of this post is to provide strong professional, operational and clinical leadership throughout our services across two hospital sites, and to link with key stakeholders and other health agencies to ensure services are fit for future generations.

The post holder will work closely and alongside the Assistant Chief Operating Officer, the Clinical Director, the Director of Nursing and other professionals in the management team. The Head of Nursing will be a highly visible and credible presence across the Care Group, contributing to strategy, including the Our Transforming Care Institute, working to ensure the highest standards of care, setting and maintaining standards of clinical excellence and continuously striving to improve the experience for patients, families and carers.

We are looking for a senior nurse with extensive clinical and management experience who has both the ability and enthusiasm to lead a large team. The post holder will need to be enthusiastic, driven and able to demonstrate experience and a track record of managing a team, delivering change, motivating teams, raising and maintaining high quality standards and how they have used their clinical and management expertise to analyse patient pathways, identify opportunities to optimise these and develop new pathways and models.

Developing and supporting you

As an organisation we know how important it is to support new staff. We pride ourselves on being a ‘family’ and as such we will look after, encourage, challenge and support you.

As part of the Care Group senior nursing team, there will be many opportunities for development - we are committed to the on-going education of all grades of staff through in house education programs, annual personal development plans and academic development opportunities.

You will have the opportunity to enhance your skills and further your personal development through our recently launched Leadership Academy. To support leaders at all levels we have developed a development programme for leaders meaning that every leader will be a SaTH certified leader.

Our hospitals

The Trust which runs Shropshire’s two acute hospitals, the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) and the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford, is developing a culture of safest and kindest care through its partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute (VMI) – the USA’s ‘Hospital of the Decade’. On the back of this exciting partnership, we launched our Transforming Care Production System, housed in our Transforming Care Institute, and already we have made significant improvements to patient care. It is an area of work that CQC inspectors described as “outstanding practice” during their most recent visit. While the CQC report says the Trust ‘requires improvement’ the organisation is on a journey to provide the safest and kindest care in the NHS and we were delighted to be rated ‘good’ for caring and medical care.

Every individual in our organisation makes a significant contribution to the care we are able to deliver to our patients and their families, and as employers we recognise and celebrate the outstanding efforts of our staff through our monthly and annual VIP (Values in Practice) Awards. The awards celebrate the fantastic work that takes place across our Trust.

Working and living in Shropshire

Our hospitals are situated in one of the most attractive parts of the country with stunning countryside and bustling towns.

Shropshire is a beautiful county between the West Midlands and North Wales. Whilst rural and home to the Shropshire Hill Area of Outstanding Beauty, it is anything but sleepy. Unlike many counties we are a short distance from major cities, and an even shorter distance to the unique and dramatic Welsh landscape.

Fun and/or family time can be enjoyed within the county at one of our five major towns – Shrewsbury, Telford, Oswestry, Ludlow and Bridgnorth – where you can enjoy days out, great food, musical festivals or shopping trips.

Good transport links make it easy to travel around the country while we are also a very safe county where housing standards are high with a range of excellent state and private schools.
