CONSULTANT CLINICAL ONCOLOGIST
An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of the Oncology team at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The post is specialising in colorectal and gynaecological cancers but sub-sites may be adjusted for the suitable candidate’s interests.
You will be part of a team of 8 Consultant Oncologists providing care to the population of Shropshire and Mid-Wales – catchment of 520,000 people.
This appointment is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. There is a 1:8 on-call commitment and 10 Programmed Activities per week. Applications are welcome from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons.
The new £4.8m state of the art Cancer & Haematology Centre providing dedicated facilities to patients at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Clinical Oncology occupies the ground floor with Out-Patient clinics, Chemotherapy Day Centre (24 stations) and Radiotherapy facilities being co-located. The Radiotherapy Department offers 3 matched Varian Truebeam linear accelerators, 6DoF couch, Varian RPM system, Xstrahl kilovoltage unit and Canon widebore CT scanner (replaced 2021). IMRT (mainly Rapidarc) and Adaptive IGRT is offered as standard and the department has consistently achieved the required national targets with further planned increases. 4DCT lung, Breast with IMC and DIBH breast treatments are in clinical use and we are commissioned to provide a lung and oligometastasis SABR service for 2021.
The in-patient facilities have recently been refurbished and a 30 bedded Haematology / Oncology Ward providing Specialised Care to Patients in a single setting. The department is highly research active with 396 patients recruited into 42 cancer trials in 2016/17, supported by a team of dedicated Oncology Research Nurses, Research Radiographers and Administrative support.
Specialist Registrars rotate to the Centre as part of the West Midland’s Deanery Clinical Oncology.
It is essential that you possess FRCR (or equivalent training and experience), and are on the GMC Specialist Register in Oncology, or within six months of obtaining a CCT at time of interview, CESR or European Community Rights
