An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Band 3 Assistant Screening Practitioner with the Shropshire Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.

The Centre has been managing the screening programme for a population of approximately 482,800, covering the geographical area of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin, since 2009.  The screening sites are at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

This role has been developed to support the existing screening team in the delivery of Bowel Scope Screening.  Shropshire residents aged 55 years are invited to participate in a one off flexible sigmoidoscopy which is complementary to the bowel screening methodology of gFOB testing offered to all 60-74 year olds.

The successful applicant will join an established, friendly and professional team, providing high quality care to all screening participants.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to support the implementation of the Bowel Scope screening lists, working under the instruction of the Specialist Screening Practitioners.

You must be able to work under your own initiative, as well as being part of a dedicated team.  You must be compassionate and caring, with good communication skills as you will be required to pass on results and health promotional advice to participants, ensuring that all information is fully understood.

Good basic IT knowledge is essential as you will need to collect, record and monitor data accurately during the screening lists, to enable pathway progression and for audit and evaluation purposes.

You are required to have a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent and experience of working in an acute healthcare setting, with an understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology.  You will be provided with mentorship and support in order to meet your own development needs with specific external training for the role.

The post is for 15 hours per week covering 3 x 5 hour list sessions.  The post holder will be required to work flexibly across both sites and is predominantly evening working; it could also involve weekend working as the Service expands.  As this post requires working across different sites, the ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role is essential.
