We are currently looking for a Support Medical Secretary to work within the Oncology Department in the Surgical, Oncology and Haematology Centre.
You should have experience of good practice and systems of work within the secretarial or PA field, knowledge of Health & Safety and an understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues.
You should possess 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4) or equivalent, RSA stage 2 / 3 typing / word processing (or have equivalent experience), knowledge of Microsoft Office and be working (or willing to work) towards NVQ Level 3 Business/ Medical Admin or AMSPAR. The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the Consultant's workload and effectively support activities with other hospital staff to ensure that an efficient service is provided.
The post holder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription and self generated correspondence.
You will be required to respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and challenging enquiries.
Working for our organisation
The successful applicant will be working within the Oncology department, helping to support a team of 9 Consultant Oncologists, all based in the Lingen Davies Unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a busy Medical Secretaries office.
The Government has formally announced that it intends to introduce regulations that will require any individuals employed by the NHS where their role involves patient contact, to be fully vaccinated (1st and 2nd dose) against COVID-19 by 1st April 2022. To achieve this the successful applicant must have had their 1st COVID-19 vaccination by 3rd February 2022. Therefore, full COVID-19 vaccination will be a condition of employment unless an individual is medically exempt. We will ask for proof of vaccination during the recruitment process.
