Job overview

We have 2x 22.5 hours per week Clerical Officers available to support the Phlebotomy Team at both The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford and you will be required to rotate between both sites. 

The postholder will provide front of house administrative support to clinical teams within the Phlebotomy Department, supporting and maintaining a smooth running department and providing a high quality and efficient service to patients from SaTH and primary care referrals.

Along with GCSE's in Maths and English at grades 9 - 4 (or equivalent), you should have previous administrative experience and strong IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office. Experience of dealing with patients/clinical colleagues and use of patient administration/booking systems is desirable.

Main duties of the job

day to day administration duties
first point of contact to the department either by telephone, email or in person
general reception duties
general office duties, including filing, photocopying, collating and distribution of information, receipt and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail, printing request forms
capture phlebotomy activity on a weekly/monthly basis
operation of the booking service, using telephone calls and newer digital systems
taking accurate messages by telephone and relaying them to the relevant person/team
scan/enter information onto the Trust IT systems
maintain appropriate stock levels of stationary
produce clinic lists 
liaise with phlebotomists regarding cancellations or urgent referrals
assist Phlebotomy Manager or other staff in the training of new staff

Working for our organisation

At present we have 40 Phlebotomists working across 3 sites. We provide a safe booking appointment system at The Princess Royal Hospital Telford (PRH), The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) and Whitchurch Community Hospital.

We cover inpatients (PRH/RSH only) and outpatients at all 3 sites, providing a service for both GP's and consultants. Pre Covid we also provided phlebotomy at a number of GP surgeries. The Phlebotomy service is currently undergoing a full system review.

Maths and English GCSE (grade C or above) or equivalent experience
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification or experience
