  • To provide leadership and management for the day to day running of the Administration and Clerical team within the Maternity Outpatients and Scan Department and, if applicable, Paediatric Outpatients, ensuring the A&C team are delivering the highest possible standard of work.
  • To have a robust understanding of the patient administration, outpatient clinic systems and of the case notes system and to be able to deliver all aspects of the administration service, if staffing levels require this.  
  • To optimise list utilisation with proactive thinking, regularly monitoring the capacity of appointments an taking appropriate action to ensure the efficiency of appointments utilisation and liaising with sonographers/midwives when extra capacity is required.
  • To have a clear understanding of antenatal/maternity pathways and the importance of aligning antenatal appointments with obstetric scan appointments as necessary. 
  • To provide basic clinical information to patients in relation to the type of clinic they are attending and any medical instructions they need to follow prior to their appointment.

  • Providing administrative support to colleagues, teams and/or services.
  • Carrying out a range of administrative duties including answering queries, progress chasing, task-related problem solving.
  • Using specialist knowledge in administration, policies, and procedures to respond to non-routine matters.
  • Liaising with own and other departments.
  • Accurately maintaining electronic and/or hard copy records.
  • Dealing with enquiries e.g. from patients, relatives and staff.
  • May provide training/supervision/leadership.
  • Coordinating activities such as meetings, waiting lists, clinics.

Hospital Transformation Programme (HTP)

As part of our long-term vision to improve patient care and service delivery, our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028. This move will unite specialist services in a purpose-built, modern environment, enhancing care and team experience.
