The role of the Estates Officer - Decontamination is to undertake commissioning and quarterly and annual validations within Sterile Services Departments and Endoscopy Units within the Estates at The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. The postholder will be required to communicate directly with the Sterile Services Department and Endoscopy Departments Management to inform them of maintenance programmes and also where there are areas of concern with regards critical elements of failure. The postholder will liaise with Estates Management and Contractors to ensure continuing operation of the specialised units.
The postholder will be required to act as the Authorised Person (Automatic Endoscope Reprocessors/Sterilisers/Washer Disinfectors), as defined in Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) and European Standard (EN) directives.
The postholder will also be required to carry out commissioning, quarterly and annual validations and maintenance on various types of decontamination equipment and carry out planned and reactive maintenance on all the electrical and mechanical plant that form the infrastructure of the Sterile Services Departments and Endoscopy Units.
The successful applicant will have a positive can do attitude and be able to demonstrate flexibility and initiative when dealing with a wide range of engineering/building services, providing team leadership and co-ordination to achieve a high standard of productivity and workmanship in the most cost effective manner.
You will ensure compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, and associated Statutory Regulations that are applicable to the to the position, with suitable training and support. In addition you will act as an Authorised/Responsible Person for a number of specialised building and engineering services.
Applicants should possess professional knowledge acquired through a degree, or equivalent plus specialist knowledge acquired through post-graduate courses, and experience to masters equivalent level in a building services/engineering related discipline. This will be supplemented by having worked previously in the NHS or similar organisation, and preferably with evidence of management development and formal Health and Safety training.
