An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as a Receptionist within the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). As the first point of contact for patients, visitors and colleagues, you will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient reception service while supporting the smooth running of the department.
Working as part of a busy team, your duties will include patient check-in, appointment management, handling telephone enquiries, maintaining accurate patient records and supporting patients throughout their diagnostic journey.
Applicants must hold GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent, including Functional Skills Level 2). Experience working with the public in a busy environment is essential. Previous healthcare, appointment booking or NHS systems experience would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, attention to detail, a professional and compassionate approach, and the ability to manage a varied workload. Competence in Microsoft Office applications and an understanding of confidentiality, information governance and data protection are essential.
The CDC may operate up to 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, therefore flexibility to meet service needs is required.
Main duties of the job
Based within the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), the Reception Team plays a key role in delivering a professional, welcoming and efficient service to patients, visitors and colleagues. As the first point of contact, the team supports patients throughout their diagnostic pathway by managing patient check-ins, appointment administration, telephone enquiries and maintaining accurate patient records across a range of digital systems.
The successful post holder will work closely with colleagues across the CDC and wider Trust, providing excellent customer service and administrative support to ensure a positive patient experience. Duties include welcoming patients and visitors, booking and managing appointments, responding to enquiries, supporting administrative processes, maintaining reception areas, processing correspondence and updating Trust systems.
Applicants should have excellent communication and organisational skills, attention to detail, and a professional and empathetic approach when dealing with patients, relatives, visitors and colleagues. The ability to manage a varied workload, work independently and as part of a team, maintain confidentiality and remain calm in a busy environment is essential.
