Cancer Services are recruiting for the role of a Cancer Pathway Cover Tracker, who will have the knowledge and skills to track patients on any tumour site, to ensure the resilience and consistent delivery of the tracking service the department provides. This role will require extensive knowledge of cancer tracking and will contribute to ensuring the trust reports all cancer data accurately and on time.
The role will use the department's tracking dashboard to provide cover for the Cancer Pathway Coordinators and MDT Admin Assistants for timely intervention into patient's cancer pathways.
The postholder will be expected to proactively identify where support is required with the oversight of Cancer Services Management. The postholder will work with the management team to support the department as per business needs which may include, but is not limited to, the facilitation and coordination of MDT meetings, providing cover when necessary.
Main duties of the job
- Liaise directly with clinical teams, diagnostic departments, bookings, pathology, radiology to expedite any urgent appointments.
- Work within the escalation policy where there is any deviation from expected pathway.
- To actively seek to ensure that all patients are treated within national targets set for cancer patients.
- The post holder will regularly monitor the Cancer Performance Dashboard, ensuring tracking is timely and identify areas requiring most support.
- To accurately apply, and maintain up to date knowledge of, the Cancer Waiting Times Guidance and the Somerset Cancer Registry system when tracking patients, ensuring dates on their pathway are assigned appropriately.

The Cancer Services tracking team is a non-patient facing team that is responsible for overseeing the timely delivery of cancer standards and services. The team track patients on a cancer pathway, escalate issues to the attention of appropriate staff, provide accurate data to report the trust's performance, facilitate clinical multi-disciplinary meetings, and connect teams together, all to support cancer services throughout the trust.
