We are looking to recruit a Patient Flow Co-ordinator across the Acute Medicine Department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
You will be a member of the Acute Medicine Team working directly with the AMU, AMA and SDEC Nurse Coordinators (NiC) supporting the management of all attendances, admissions and discharges for Acute Medicine patients by facilitating an efficient, effective and timely management of patient’s diagnostics, decisions and utilisation of beds and resources. You will also support the Emergency Department with medical patient flow.
You will develop close working relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff ensuring they demonstrate a professional manner and personal confidence.
There is a small clinical component to this role, e.g. venepuncture, cannulation, performing ECG's.
Alongside the administrative and clerical aspects of the acute med facilitator role, the post holder will provide support and assist Registered Nurses in delivering certain aspects of health care directly to patients, within defined levels of competence and practice. This will include assisting in maintaining a suitable environment in which to deliver that care.
Main duties of the job

The role supports the Acute Medicine Team by helping manage patient admissions, discharges and movement through the department.

It involves working closely with Nurse Coordinators to keep patients safe and ensure tests, decisions and bed use run smoothly.

The post holder will help nurses with basic patient care tasks, record observations, move patients safely and support clinical admin work.

They will help monitor delays, chase results, share information and keep good communication with staff, patients and other teams.

The role requires good organisation, accuracy and the ability to stay calm while working in a busy hospital environment

​The post holder will work mainly at one hospital site but may be asked to support the other site when needed.
