An exciting opportunity to join our team of Specialist Optometrists has become available. The Trust has invested in a new department which opened in June 2017. The Eye Department within The Copthorne Building at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has modern facilities in which to deliver excellent ophthalmic care for our patients. The facility has new furniture and equipment that supports staff and patients.
The post holder is an autonomous practitioner who will provide a broad range of core and highly specialised services to support the Orthoptic and Ophthalmology department.
You will join our established Specialist Optometrists who offer a range of services including refraction, vitreoretina, Medical Retina, medical contact lens, low vision services, Glaucoma, paediatric, injections, diabetic eye surveillance bio-microscopy slit lamp examination, lasers and urgent eye clinic to support the department.
Experience or an interest in Refraction, Paediatric and adult examinations, cycloplegic, complex and diagnostic refractions, including babies and patients with specific learning difficulties is desirable.
As a senior clinician, the post holder is expected to be capable of managing complex cases independently and to provide clinical advice and expert opinion to colleagues as necessary.
Procedures involve the use of specialist ophthalmic instrumentation to a high degree of accuracy. Analysis and interpretation of specialist test results will be necessary in order to prescribe the appropriate optical appliances and plan or revise individual programmes of patient care.
You must hold a current UK driving licence or able to meet the travel requirements of the post as cross site working between The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital may be required.
