The Radiotherapy Physics Service is seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Technologist/ Radiographer to join a team providing a scientific and technical service to the Radiotherapy department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). Shrewsbury and the surrounding Shropshire county area provide a pleasant rural environment with affordable housing and motorway access to nearby city amenities.
The applicant should have a previous post qualification knowledge of treatment planning and mould room practice in radiotherapy. The candidate should also possess an accredited Degree in Clinical Technology (Radiotherapy Physics), or Therapy Radiography.
Applicants completing their final year of appropriate Graduate Diploma or Qualified Therapy Radiographers will be considered on a lower band. Applications at Band 5 band will be considered with lower experience.
The successful applicant will be required to participate in the development and implementation of new techniques and work as a team member in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment. Mentoring and training of other staff members is an essential part of this role.
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Treatment Centre is based around Varian networked therapy equipment and uses the Eclipse treatment planning system. VMAT & IGRT are in routine clinical use at the centre above target levels, with new clinical sites in development. SABR is commissioned on site for lung & bone with further sites due.
To participate in the Treatment Planning and Mould Room service and assist in the supervision of these services.
This service includes the fabrication of patient immobilisation shells, to prevent patient movement during treatment, other treatment accessory construction and radiotherapy plans where complex three-dimensional radiation distributions are computed to maximise therapeutic efficiency to the tumour and minimise healthy tissue damage.
To implement and support any changes or improvements in the delivery of the service. To carry out all these duties in order to provide a state-of-the-art Radiation Physics service with a national profile for the benefit of the Trust and its patients.
The post-holder will be prepared to participate in further training and must achieve RCT registration as a Clinical Technologist or HCPC registration as a Therapy Radiographer.
To undertake other duties as directed by the Chief Dosimetrist.

The total Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals radiotherapy physics team comprises ten Clinical Technologists and 10 Clinical Scientists supporting the radiotherapy services.
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital treatment centre is based around Varian networked therapy equipment and uses the Eclipse treatment planning system. There are three matched TrueBeam linear accelerators. Lung & bone SABR have been commissioned with node SABR in clinical development. The department has moved to a paperlite system following Trust targets. SGRT project in the pipeline.
