The Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust Blood Sciences Department are looking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
The successful candidate would join the team delivering a high quality diagnostic service to our patients. The service is provided 24 hours per day, 7 days per week service and the post holder would participate in a shift pattern averaging 37.5 hour working week - including days, evenings, nights, weekends and Bank/ Public holidays.
Applications are invited from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists, with proven post registration experience in Haematology & Blood Transfusion. Experience of working out of hours would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital although staff may be required to work on any of our other sites, as the need arises.
Main duties of the job
Assist in the provision of a diagnostic service. Perform competently a range of laboratory techniques and procedures in one or more section(s) of the Blood Science Department either singly, or as part of a team, that equate to the training and level of responsibility of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered BMS.
Supervise support workers, students and other untrained or unqualified staff in the performance of tests according to standard operating procedures. Work flexibly, as part of a team to support the delivery of a 24 hour per day, 7 days per week service. Commence a period of specialism training, culminating in the award of an IBMS Specialist Diploma.

The Blood Sciences laboratory has UKAS Accreditation throughout the disciplines and the Blood Transfusion department is fully compliant with MHRA standards. The Haematology department is equipped with a Sysmex XN Track and CS2500 analysers and Blood Transfusion have IH-1000 analysers. Both departments perform a wide repertoire of tests utilising both automated and manual techniques. The department is fully computerised with DXC Telepath. Continuous professional development is actively encouraged.
