Applications are invited from enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to join our busy and friendly Cellular Pathology team.  The post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but attendance at The Princess Royal Hospital may occasionally be required.  Cellular Pathology receives around 33000 histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology requests per annum. The department is UKAS accredited to ISO15189:2012.

The successful applicant will be a conscientious, enthusiastic individual with a scientific background, capable of careful and accurate work and must hold a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences.  Whilst experience in Histopathological techniques is desirable, it is not essential as comprehensive training will be given.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in all areas of routine histology; specimen transfer, embedding, microtomy (including frozen section), cut up and special stains.  Our immunohistochemistry section processes approximately 18000 slides per year on two new Leica Bond Max automated stainers.  You will be involved with essential quality checks of slides being issued to the 11 Histopathologists and up to 2 Registrars working in the department.  In addition, you will work alongside colleagues to support other activities required by our governing bodies such as HTA and UKAS.

We support participation in Continuous Professional Development and opportunities for further study are supported.  The department has IBMS approval for post registration training and the successful candidate will be encouraged to complete the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology.

Experience of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and confidence with IT programmes is essential.

An informal visit, prior to the interview date, is recommended. Interviews will be held early June.
