Job overview

The Microbiology Department receives over 480,000 sample requests per annum offering a broad range of diagnostic service for bacteriology, molecular biology, virology, serology, mycology, mycobacteriology, and parasitology. The laboratory is UKAS accredited and holds an accredited status for training with the IBMS/HCPC.

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate for a Band 4 Associate Practitioners post in our laboratory. An ideal candidate will have an eye for detail and a genuine interest in the role which can be challenging but rewarding at the same time

Main duties of the job

General duties include supporting all areas of the lab including molecular testing, maintaining data and documentation, handling specimens, setting up specimen cultures, trouble shooting and maintaining laboratory analysers, result entry, inventory taking and moving & handling of stock items.

Previous laboratory experience would be an advantage, however, individuals with similar transferable skills are also encouraged to apply. The selection procedure will be based on application and an interview, if shortlisted.

Participation in the weekend, bank holiday, early, late and night shifts is compulsory.

The successful candidate should also demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills. All duties will be performed to a professional standard as directed by Trust/ and departmental policies and procedures. You will work across a range of sections including the COVID-19 testing laboratories; you will receive support and development throughout training.
