Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic individuals to join our Blood Sciences team to work within Biochemistry and Haematology.

The successful applicant must possess a relevant qualification along with previous clinical laboratory experience.  You should hold either the NVQ Level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support, or IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part II, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant science based subject.

Participation in the out of hours rota is compulsory, including weekend, bank holidays and early/ late shifts. 

The post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital although candidates may be required to cover absences across sites. 

This is a 12 month secondment opportunity to cover maternity leave. Staff wanting to work on the bank would be considered . 

Main duties of the job

As an Associate Practitioner you will work in collaboration with Biomedical Scientists and other colleagues  assisting in the provision of a diagnostic service.

Duties include preparation, operation, monitoring and maintenance of complex laboratory equipment, and  will include tasks of a practical nature for which a high level of manual dexterity and careful attention to detail is needed.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital care for more than 500,000 people from Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. Pathology provides pathology services to the Trust and Shropshire County CCG, Telford and Wrekin CCG, Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys Healthcare Trust, and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, amongst others.

The two hospitals, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford are just a 20 minute drive apart.
