The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to work in our dynamic Vascular Surgery department. Full time and part time applications are welcome and the post is available as soon as an ideal candidate or candidates are found.

Candidates for this role must have GMC Registration and recent experience within the NHS.

The Department

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative team dedicated to the delivery of high quality care within a busy acute hospital. The Department of Vascular Surgery provides an integrated service to Shropshire and North Powys with in-patient and day-case facilities at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  Vascular outpatient clinics are based at the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as well as diabetic foot clinics at RSH.  A comprehensive Vascular service is offered which includes AAA repair both open and endovascular, carotid surgery, lower limb revascularisation, renal access, MDT diabetic foot management and both endovenous and open techniques for varicose veins.  There are currently four all day theatre lists, in a dedicated Vascular theatre.

The principal role of the post holder will be to contribute to the delivery of a first class Vascular service, as part of the multidisciplinary team.

It is desirable that you will possess some Vascular experience, but this is not essential as it is anticipated that you will have ample opportunity to acquire skills.

It is expected that you will adopt a flexible approach to the training opportunities available in order to maximise the experience available to you.

The work will be matched to the skills of the successful candidate.  This post would suit a non-training grade post designed for Surgeons who have completed their core training and would like to expand their vascular experience before entering Higher Surgical Training. Also, a more experienced Surgeon may benefit from exposure to the advanced surgical procedures regularly performed here.

Applicants must have MRCS or equivalent, and preferably more than two years’ experience in General Surgery.

Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice and MRCS is essential.

There is an on call commitment to the General Surgical rota and the successful candidate may work at either Princess Royal Hospital 1:6 non-resident on call, or at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital 1:12 resident on call dependent on service needs. This post attracts 12 PAs.

Our Hospitals

Our Hospitals are located in Shrewsbury and Telford and are brimming with exemplary teams of hardworking individuals.

It is a particularly exciting time to join the Trust as we have recently started working collaboratively with the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. We are one of only 5 UK hospitals to receive this support, from what is regarded as the safest hospital in the world. This collaboration means employees can benefit from the KPO (Kaizen Promotion Office) and value Stream work, gaining valuable help and guidance regardless of your level of expertise. It poses a unique opportunity to make a difference and we hope you will want to be a part of our journey. More about this can be found under further links.

Shropshire is a beautiful county located between the West Midlands and North Wales. Whilst rural and home to the Shropshire Hills it is anything but sleepy. The county is bustling with idyllic towns including Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Bridgnorth and Ludlow, with plenty to do regardless of your interests. More information can again be found under further links.

We are ideally located between the north and the south making travelling around the UK extremely easy. As well as being only a short distance from major cities and busy transport links including Birmingham airport, our county also borders with beautiful north Wales which is abundant in outdoor activities, brilliant beaches, and thrilling scenery.

We want you to find out more about the department and our hospitals, and we invite you to contact us with any questions you may have on 01743 261496, or even arrange a visit. Please also take the time to read any supporting documentation to really get to know us.

We look forward to hearing from you.
