LOCUM CONSULTANT HAEMATOLOGIST

 

An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of the Haematology team at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust. This appointment is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) but with one day a week at the Princess Royal Hospital Telford.  There is a 1:5 on-call commitment and 10 Programmed Activities per week. Applications are welcome from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons. This post is initially for 6 months.

 

You will be part of an existing team of 4.3 Consultant Haematologists providing care to the population of Shropshire and Mid-Wales – catchment of 520,000 people. The Department offers a full range of services and at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and there is a dedicated in-patient unit which includes 6 side rooms (hepa-filtered air) which provides level 2 BCSH care. The Hospital has a full range of back up services on site – including ITU, Renal Dialysis and Bronchoscopy.

 

The new £4.8m state of the art Cancer & Haematology Centre, providing dedicated facilities opened in 2012 to patients at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Clinical Haematology occupies the first floor with Out-Patient and Day Unit facilities (10 stations) being co-located.  The in-patient facilities have been recently refurbished and a 30 bedded Haematology / Oncology Ward opened in May 2014 providing Specialised Care to Patients in a single setting.  The Pathology Laboratory has full CPA accreditation.

Shropshire is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers extensive outdoor recreational facilities and easy access to North Wales and the Welsh Coast.  Housing standards are high in the county both in Town and Country with good local state and private Schools.  The M54 motorway starts just outside Shrewsbury and provides quick access to the national motorway network.

 

It is essential that you have full GMC registration with a licence to practice, possess MRCP and MRCPath (or equivalent training and experience),
