This new post is a full-time appointment based at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, to develop the stroke service as per the East and Midlands’s stroke review and support 7-day working of its Stroke Consultants. You will be joining a well-established stroke team at SaTH which includes 5 full-time Stroke Consultants who along with Consultants in Elderly Care Medicine provide a full range of services including hyper-acute and acute stroke care, rehabilitation, Orthogeriatrics and movement disorder services. The on-call commitment will be for stroke thrombolysis telephonic advice service out of hours and weekend stroke unit ward rounds and TIA clinics on a 1 in 6 rota. Applications are welcome from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons.

It is essential that you have full GMC registration and hold a licence to practice, possess MRCP (or equivalent training and experience), and are on the GMC Specialist Register in Stroke/Geriatric and General Internal Medicine, or be within six months of obtaining a CCT at time of interview, CESR or European Community Rights.

The Department

Our Department is well supported by trainees providing opportunities for teaching in a friendly supportive environment. SaTH is also part of Keele Medical School teaching for up to 100 clinical students, so there is opportunity for you to pursue an interest in medical education.

Our Hospitals

SaTH is aiming to recruit to a number of posts in Acute Stroke, Frailty / Geriatrics and Orthogeriatrics. They are all offered with associated formal and approved Royal College Job Descriptions. Overall, the Trust wishes to increase its Consultant skill mix and has some flexibility in agreeing job plans that will deliver the core service requirements but these plans could potentially be tailored to include areas of special interest or preference. Potential candidates are asked therefore to come forward and discuss what they are seeking as a future Medical career. This is an exciting time to come and work for SaTH as we embark on evolving Centres of Excellence for Stroke Medicine and Elderly Care.
