Main duties of the job

We are looking for an Oral and Maxillofacial Consultant Surgeon to join our expanding Department within the main inpatient base at Princess Royal Hospital. This is a replacement post with specialist interest in Head and Neck Cancer and Skin Cancer Surgery, there is flexibility to proportion the work according to the Candidates preferences.

You will join a team of 5 OMFS surgeons with a 1 in 5 general duties on call commitment and the Head and Neck Cancer post will support the care of microvascular free tissue transfer.

We are well supported by full 24 hour junior and middle grade cover and by excellent Nursing, Theatre and Lab services.

Both hospitals are based in Shropshire, a short 20 minutes’ drive apart. It is a wonderful bustling place, with affordable housing, fantastic schools and great out-of-work activities for everyone. 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will have a specialist cancer and skin clinic at least once a week. There is a degree of flexibility as to the exact location but currently the cancer clinic is at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the morning MDT, and the skin clinic is also at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. There is full support from the McMillan Specialist Cancer nurses who are an integral part of the clinic settings.  You will be expected to provide seemless care to our exisiting cohort of patients.

You would be required to have a special interest in head and neck cancer with microvascular free tissue transfer techniques along with skin cancer management and treatment. The post will involve an approximate 50:50 split between the two subspecialty areas.
