Main duties of the job

This is a replacement Post and preferred surgical interests can be tailored to a suitable applicant. These would include a combination from either orthognathic surgery, TMJ management (surgical and non-surgical) and/or skin cancer surgery. You will join a team of 4 existing OMFS surgeons with a 1 in 5 general duties on call commitment. The team provide a wide range of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Head and Neck Skin surgery as well as providing a Head and Neck Cancer service.

The Post will also include an element of elective facial trauma surgery (please see job plan).

The Post is currently remunerated for 10 PA’s An additional 1 PA is available by mutual consent. (Please see proposed job plan at end).

We are well supported by full 24 hour junior and middle grade cover and by excellent Nursing, Theatre and Lab services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The maxillofacial Consultants currently provide a 1 in 5 general on-call service. There is a 1 in 6 maxillofacial second on call rota provided by the SpR and Specialty Doctors. With a third tier oncall provided by SHO level dentally qualified medical students training in Birmingham. The maxillofacial SHOs participate in a long day on call rota with out of hours medical students/locum cover for the evenings.
