An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Ultrasound Assistant to join our non-obstetric ultrasound team at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. We are looking for people who are caring and compassionate and who have strong communication skills to deliver excellent patient focused care in a challenging environment. The successful candidate will work alongside our Sonographers, Clinical Vascular Scientists, Radiologists and Radiology Nurses to ensure a safe, efficient and caring environment for all patients undergoing a range of non-obstetric ultrasound scans and ultrasound guided interventional procedures.

Previous experience of working in Radiology and training/experience in aseptic techniques are essential.

Consideration will be given to applicants for both full-time and part-time hours.

You must be flexible in your approach as you will be required to work hours between 8am-8pm across 7 days a week (including bank holidays).

 

Main duties of the job

  • Greet, identify and prepare patients for a range of ultrasound examinations
  • To care for and provide reassurance to patients (including children and vulnerable adults), carers, visitors and relatives during their visit to the department
  • To assist with the flow of patients (both inpatient and outpatient) through the department and ensure that patient’s dignity, privacy and confidentiality is maintained.
  • To assist Radiologists and Radiology Nurses during ultrasound guided biopsy and aspiration procedures
  • To help prepare sterile examination trolleys
  • To help care for patients post procedure and report back any concerns to the Radiology Nurse or Radiologist
  • To assist Sonographers and Clinical Vascular Scientists with a range of non-obstetric examinations and act as a chaperone in line with trust policy
  • To decontaminate ultrasound equipment in line with departmental and trust infection control policies
  • To ensure that equipment is used correctly and any faults or concerns are reported to senior staff
  • To dispose of any clinical waste and sharps bins to appropriate areas in line with trust policies
  • Assist with moving and handling of patients, trolleys and wheelchairs.
  • To maintain accurate patient records, both electronic and paper
  • Assist with audit projects as required
