Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Physician Associate Internship

Following the successful launch of our neighbouring Staffordshire Physician Associate Internship, we are now working in partnership to commence our own amazing opportunity in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin to recruit a maximum of 4 PAs to commence later this year or in the new year.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of something really unique as you continue your professional development as a Physician Associate.

Originally conceived by the North Staffordshire GP Federation (NSGPF) and The University Hospitals of the North Midlands (UHNM) working in partnership, the scheme now includes other secondary care providers and a growing list of enthusiastic GP practices across the county.

This unique opportunity offers either newly qualified or 1st year post qualifying PAs to spend time in both primary and secondary care, whilst continuing their professional development.

How it works

Working 3 days a week in a local GP Practice you’ll support the GP team and primary care staff; with a further 2 days per week in secondary care working within The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust within a chosen specialism, of medicine. You'll be supporting a team of Consultants, Junior Doctors, Nursing staff and Therapists within the department and wards and will work collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust’s policies and clinical guidelines. In the local GP practice you’ll be supervised by a GP Supervisor and will work alongside the primary care team.

You’ll assess and examine patients, manage a specific caseload of patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment whilst exercising a high level of professional judgment and expertise when delivering care.

This is a very exciting, very rewarding but demanding environment.

In addition as we are working in close partnership with the Staffordshire Physician Associate Internship Scheme, we are extremely fortunate that our PA's will be able to access both the educational component and the peer support. The internship offers you an excellent opportunity to attend weekly half day educational sessions in Stafford with the option to complete a bespoke Primary Care Syllabus for those PA's particularly in their first 1-2 years post qualifying. In addition, we have an exciting opportunity to work towards accreditation of the educational package at PGCert level. This also allows you to network with all PA's on both the Staffordshire and Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin internship on a weekly basis

Length of the programme is 1 year.

What you need

  • You will hold a science-related degree prior to graduating from an established UK Physician Associate Training programme which follows the Department of Health’s Competence Curriculum Framework.
  • You’ll need to demonstrate your commitment to work in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin .
  • Successfully passed or will be sitting the next UK National Physician Associate Examination.
  • You will also be registered with the Managed Voluntary Register for Physician Associates prior to commencing the internship.
  • You will require a full UK driving license.
  • Quick thinking, flexible and thorough professionals will find the post to their liking.
