Job overview
*INTERNAL VACANCY*
We are currently looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking individual to join our team within the Theatre Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The Operating Department Orderly role is a vital part of ensuring the maintenance of the day-to-day efficiency of the Theatre Department.
An ability to work and communicate with all other members of the ward and theatre teams is essential. As some unsociable hours will be expected, therefore, the ability to be flexible will be essential and weekends and evening shifts may be included.
Main duties of the job
The duties are predominantly that of escorting patients to and from the Theatre Department and wards in a timely manner. As such you will be expected to have a caring and friendly personality as often you will be the first representative of the theatre team to meet the patient.
Working for your organisation
You will be joining a friendly, supportive, patient focused and innovative team where you will be fully supported.
A full in-house Theatres induction package will be mandatory.
Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment
We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.
We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.
Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.
By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
