A Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) supports patients in the Same Day Emergency Care setting, delivering basic patient care, Transferring patients to and from scans, performing ECGs if trained to do so, Venepuncture and Cannulation if trained and maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. The role involves supporting patients within the department at SDEC to ensure timely and efficient care. SDEC is a fast paced and dynamic working environment so clear communication within the team is essential.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role involve supporting patients within the SDEC setting. You will be required to record vital observations, perform ECGs, venepuncture and cannulation, support with transferring of patients to and from the radiology department and provide hot drinks and sandwiches. You will also assist nursing staff with both clinical and administrative tasks, while working under the supervision of a registered nurse. In addition, the Healthcare Assistant helps maintain a safe and clean working environment by following infection prevention procedures. Administrative support is also required, including assisting with admissions and discharges, and handling basic enquiries. The post holder is expected to manage their workload effectively, work collaboratively within the team, and communicate sensitively with patients, families, and colleagues, while adhering to Trust policies and professional standards.
