We are looking to employ a Healthcare Assistant to assist the Paediatric Ward Managers in the running of the Children's Outpatients Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The successful candidate will have clinical credibility, excellent communication and organisational skills.

This post is primarily based in the Paediatric Outpatient clinic, based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. The post holder may be required to work anywhere in the Trust where children are cared for. Hours are flexible, worked to suit the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

The Healthcare Assistant will maintain the efficient running of the paediatric outpatient department working under direct or (more usually) indirect supervision. The post holder will have the ability to cope with an unpredictable workload in, what can be, a stressful environment. The post holder will assist in the delivery of fundamental elements of care, such as satisfy patient individual needs, ensuring that privacy, dignity and comfort is maintained for patients attending the outpatient setting. The job involves working with bodily fluids on a daily basis.

Working for our organisation

The Children’s services are based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford and consist of a 36 bedded acute general paediatric ward caring for children aged 0-16 years with medical, surgical, orthopaedic and oncology conditions, an 8 bedded children’s assessment unit and a children’s outpatients department. At The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital we have an outpatient department and a Medical Day Care Unit.
