An exciting opportunity has arisen within the SaTH Operating Theatres for a Clinical Lead for Theatre Education. The successful applicant will be a current clinical specialist in the field of peri-operative nursing/operating department practice. 

The post holder will take responsibility for the overall management of education, training, and development of the interdisciplinary peri-operative teams at both The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. They will be responsible for ensuring educational support, development, teaching, advice, and clinical management to the highest possible standard for all relevant personnel within the theatre environment. 

To apply for this position, you must be either HCPC or NMC registered with experience at a Band 6 level or equivalent.

The post is currently subject to Agenda for Change Banding. The postholder will primarily work Monday to Friday office hours but will participate in out of hours working to support service delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will line mange the Education team and provide skilled specialist assistance in delivery of direct and indirect patient care throughout the Operating Department. They will participate as an integral member of the Theatre team giving leadership and guidance to staff, and maintain clinical skills within the Department. 

The post holder will support the Theatre Matron and the Lead Nurse for Theatres to deliver the highest standards of patient care and support the monitoring of the quality of patient experience across Theatres cross site at SATH between The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. They will support the Theatre management team to deliver the highest standards of patient care and support the monitoring of the quality of patient experience across all Theatres. The post holder will be ensuring the Theatre departments continue to create a culture where patient safety, in particular risk management, is perceived as essential to the care and wellbeing of patients and staff.

The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford consists of 10 operating theatres, 8 theatres and 2 maternity theatres.  We have an on call team that covers the main theatres 24/7 and a team consisting of an ODP and scrub practitioner that covers maternity 24/7.  On our Telford site we cover the following specialities: Trauma & Orthopaedics, ENT, Max-Fax, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Breast surgery, CEPOD and Maternity.

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital comprises of 9 theatres covering the following specialities: Colo-Rectal, Urology, Upper GI and Bariatric, Vascular, Trauma and Orthopaedics and CEPOD.
