The Breast Imaging Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has an opening for an Trainee Assistant Practitioner to join its multi-professional team.
Assistant Practitioners in Mammography undertake high quality mammograms under the supervision of qualified senior radiographer to screen for early stage breast cancer. In house practical learning takes place in the Mammography departments of The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford as well as on mobile units at various locations throughout rural Shropshire. It is therefore essential that you hold a current UK full driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes.
You must be committed to providing a high quality mammography service and be capable of working with accuracy and speed to NHS Breast Screening Programme standards and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. With a flexible approach to work you will be required to work weekend and evening sessions to meet the demands of the expanding screening population and symptomatic workload.

The nature of this role is that it is open to female applicants only. This provision applies under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

Training is provided under the apprenticeship scheme. You will be required to undertake the following course at Birmingham City University
‘Assistant Practitioner (Health) - Higher Apprenticeship – FdSc’

To qualify for the apprenticeship role the minimum criteria is:-
• Maths and English at Level 2 e.g. GCSE grade A* - C or 9 - 4 or equivalent.
• In addition you must not have a qualification at the same or higher level in the same
    Vocational subject area (Note therefore can have a degree in unrelated subject.)
• Must not be studying on any government funded course at the time of taking up the post.
