**The banding for this vacancy is Subject to Agenda for Change**
Are you a Dynamic, Motivated, Enthusiastic Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist who is looking for an exciting opportunity to lead the way in developing and leading a team of Therapists, Nurses, and Support staff?
Are you looking for an opportunity to work within a new and innovative area such as a Therapy Led Ward?
Do you relish a challenge and engaging others in change?
If you answered yes to the above then you could be the person we are looking for.
Within Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust we are embarking on a new way of working by developing and delivering a Therapy Led Ward with effect from November 2019.
This ward will initially be between 14 and 16 beds and will be closely linked with the discharge lounge. The team you will be managing will consist of Nursing staff, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Band 3 Higher Clinical Support Workers (a blended HCA and Rehabilitation assistant) and HCA's.
The ward will be open 24 hours a day though, the post holder will predominately be expected to work Monday to Friday 8.30 - 4.30. This ward will be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site. We will be expecting therapists to become non-medical prescribers within the first 12 months and the Therapy Led Ward Manager will be required to ensure governance and operating policies are in place to enable non-medical prescribing success.
The culture and ethos of this new ward area is that of a short period of enablement to support more patients returning to their homes with the correct level of support as required (The Home First principals) - therefore this ward will work to enable patients to be as independent in their day to day activities as they need to be to return to their usual place of residence by encouraging independence and support activities of daily living, exercise programmes, social interaction and involvement. It is anticipated the average length of stay will not exceed 7 days once admitted to the Therapy Led Ward therefore, close links with community and social care are essential to making this happen as well as working within house teams to identify the right patients for this area. The Therapists will be working across a 12 hour day from 07:30am to 19:30pm to maximise the opportunity for enablement and rehabilitation.
You will need to have a proven track record of leading a multi-professional team through change and it is desirable that you have postgraduate education in the field of people management or leadership.
As Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are currently one of five Trusts in England working in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute (one of America's top performing hospitals) the post holder will be expected to undertake Lean training within the first year of employment and implement the lean principals into this ward.
Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are going through a period of exciting change with new ideas being supported to deliver the best quality patient care possible. We are also working towards our hospital transformation plan to relocate services to an emergency site (Shrewsbury) and a planned care site (Telford) and have secured significant investment from the government to make these essential changes happen.
If you think you have the passion and drive we are looking for please apply.
We welcome applicants attending for visits or a look around and informal chat prior to interview so please do let us know if you want to come and meet the wider therapy team.
We look forward to meeting you at either an informal visit or at interview should you be shortlisted.
