Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 development post within hand therapy at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust in Shropshire. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic occupational therapist or physiotherapist with a keen interest in developing their knowledge and skills in hand therapy with the support and supervision of an experienced hand therapy team.

The successful candidate will gain experience in a  wide range of hand therapy conditions including elective orthopaedic referrals, trauma, rheumatology and primary care GP referrals.

We are able to offer a development route for applicants without previous hand therapy experience. Our experienced and skilled team of occupational therapists and physiotherapists will provide clinical supervision and training to assist you in developing the skills you require, working towards a specialist hand therapy role.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess outpatients with a range of hand conditions and in collaboration with the patient formulate and deliver a treatment plan.
  • To be responsible for planning and managing own patient caseload.
  • To maintain accurate patient records.
  • To participate in in-service training, clinical supervision and departmental audits.
  • Maintain a professional development portfolio as evidence of developing knowledge and skills.

Working for our organisation

The post is based in a busy and friendly outpatient therapy department at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. Our team of therapists includes specialist, highly specialist and advanced practitioner therapists who have a wealth of expertise and experience to share with you.

Within Shropshire we provide services to patients referred to us from the acute trust and also from primary care. We benefit from our close proximity to an orthopaedic specialist hospital, with interesting and complex cases being referred to us for ongoing rehabilitation.

We have a structured in-service training programme and your job plan will include time for non-clinical professional activity.

Therapy services are delivered over two hospital sites within the trust and although the post is predominantly based at our Telford site there may be a requirement to travel to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site as part of the role.

The Government has formally announced that it intends to introduce regulations that will require any individuals employed by the NHS where their role involves patient contact, to be fully vaccinated (1st and 2nd dose) against COVID-19 by 1st April 2022.  To achieve this the successful applicant must have had their 1st COVID-19 vaccination by 3rd February 2022. Therefore, full COVID-19 vaccination will be a condition of employment unless an individual is medically exempt. We will ask for proof of vaccination during the recruitment process.
