8 reasons to join The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust this year

Searching for your next career move is a big decision, and choosing the right organisation can have a big impact on not just your working life, but also your personal life and future. As the NHS continues to evolve, 2026 is an exciting time to join a Trust that's growing, investing and transforming.

At The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), we have big plans as we move into 2026. Whether you're just starting out, retraining or ready for a fresh challenge, SaTH offers a supportive environment where you can develop your skills and help make a real difference to the communities we serve.

Here's 8 reasons to join SaTH in 2026:

1. A Trust in transformation

We're in the middle of a major improvement and modernisation project. The Hospitals Transformation Programme (HTP), opening in 2028, will see a multi-million pound investment to improve care for everyone through modern, purpose-built facilities. Our new four storey building at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is already underway, and we're also investing in services at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford to provide a more positive experience for patients in dedicated planned care facilities.

2. A workplace built for learning

SaTH has been awarded university status in recognition of our work in research and education. This new status will support the Trust to continue to deliver high quality care and attract further research and investment to create and exciting environment for academic and clinical advancement.

Our university hospital status will see us continue our long-term programme to build on research partnerships to drive innovation. It will also help to develop new treatments and practices more quickly, as well as supporting development of the future workforce with improved education and training.

3. Supporting your career development

Further to our university status, we also have strong partnerships with several other universities and training providers, giving you access to a wide range of further development opportunities, training pathways and funded qualifications. From our popular Nursing Associate apprenticeship to advanced clinical practice, digital roles and leadership development, there are more routes than ever available to you to develop your skills and progress your career.

4. Prioritising your health and wellbeing

We understand that the health and wellbeing of our staff is a priority, and we're proud to be able to provide a growing health and wellbeing offer, available to all staff. The offer includes healthy lifestyle support, psychological wellbeing support, physical support, financial support and signposting to national and local support groups.

In addition to this, the Trust also supports flexible working where possible; whether this be part time hours, set days or a different working pattern. As an NHS employee, you'll also get access to a wide range of local and national discounts, family friendly policies and recognition in the form of Trust awards and other schemes.

5. A diverse and inclusive workforce

We are proud of our diverse workforce, with people from all corners of the world working at SaTH, bringing their varied skills, perspectives and experiences to our hospitals. These rich backgrounds help us deliver excellent patient care and move forward in our ongoing transformation journey.

We are committed to making sure everyone feels valued, included and represented, and our Staff Networks play a vital role in creating that sense of belonging. Alongside equality initiatives, cultural celebration days and leadership programmes, these networks help colleagues connect, learn and shape positive change across the Trust. staff network logos

6. Our sustainability focus

We are immensely proud of our sustainability programme; we aim to create sustainable value with everything we do together with our staff, partners and stakeholders.

Our vision is a sustainable health and care system that works within the available environmental and social resources, protecting and improving health now and for future generations, and adopts a positive approach to improving physical and social sustainability.

Moving towards our goal, some of our key achievements to date include;

  • Sustainable travel - Liftshare (staff scheme to share transport to and from work), launch of park and ride options, cycle to work scheme
  • Achieved a significant reduction in clinical waste disposal costs
  • Reduction in reliance on fossil fuels
  • Installation of renewable on site energy
  • Warp-it recycling/reusing system live across the Trust
  • Reusable cups available in Caffe Bistro, no plastic straws, and using bamboo cutlery and takeaway containers
  • Implementing the NHS Clinical Waste Strategy

We still have work to do, and the next few years will see us build on these achievements and move towards our goal of carbon net zero by 2040.

7. Your feedback is important

We want our colleagues to feel empowered to shape the future of our services, and there are plenty of ways to share ideas, experiences and feedback. From the annual Staff Survey and regular People Pulse surveys to our Freedom to Speak Up routes, Staff Networks and engagement forums, we make sure everyone has opportunity for their voice to be heard. We genuinely want to learn from our workforce and use your feedback to inform positive change across the Trust.

8. A meaningful career

Every role at SaTH, whether clinical or non‑clinical, contributes to delivering excellent care for our patients. Working in our hospitals offers the chance to make a real difference to people's lives, and is an incredibly rewarding career. You'll be giving back to your community, supporting people when they need it most and taking pride in knowing your work has real impact.
