Joining the Hospital at Night team as a Clinical Support Worker (CSW) offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to be part of a service at the very heart of patient care during the hours when hospitals are at their busiest and most challenging. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys working closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, and wants to make a real difference when patients need it most.
Being part of Hospital at Night means you will be trusted, valued, and supported. The work requires resilience, commitment and compassion, but it also provides the chance to learn, grow and develop in ways that few other roles can. You will be encouraged to build confidence, take on new skills, and progress within a service that is forward thinking and continually evolving.
We are a close, supportive team who look out for one another and celebrate our achievements together. Every night brings something different, and you will never feel like “just another number” as your contribution will have a direct and visible impact on patient care and on the team around you.
If you are motivated, eager to learn, and want to be part of a service that is recognised across the Trust for its importance, then Hospital at Night is the place for you.

Working for your organisation
The Hospital at Night service at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides essential out-of-hours care across the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital sites. Our team includes Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers and medical staff who work together to assess deteriorating patients and manage urgent clinical needs during the night. The service plays a key role in patient safety, ensuring wards have access to skilled support whenever it’s needed.
Hospital at Night is a fast-paced and collaborative environment where no two shifts are the same. The team is known for being approachable, resilient and highly skilled, with a strong focus on patient-centred care. We continue to develop through new training, service improvements and expanding responsibilities, making this an exciting time to join.
Our vision, “To provide excellent care for the communities we serve,” guides everything we do. We are committed to our Trust values of Partnering, Ambitious, Caring and Trusted, and we aim to make a real difference to patients and their families.
As part of the Trust’s Hospital Transformation Programme (HTP), the service will relocate to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 into a modern, purpose-built environment. Successful applicants will be expected to move with the service following a formal management of change process, with full consultation and support.
Further information about HTP can be found on the Hospital Transformation Programme webpage.
