Job overview

We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals to join our Respiratory Team.  

We are dedicated to the on going development of our staff, you will undertake trust induction, healthcare specific training and ward based training alongside our clinical nurse educator as well as have other opportunities to undertake training relevant to our specialist area. 

You will assist with patient hygiene needs, toileting, nutritional intake, assisting patients with their mobility and physical comfort and monitoring and recording vital signs. 

Candidates must demonstrate a compassionate and caring attitude towards their patients and be able to deliver high standards of care. It is essential to possess good communication and organisational skills.

Please note that it is a requirement to hold GCSEs in Maths and English grades 9-4 (or equivalent) for this position. 

Main duties of the job

Provide support to patients to maintain their hygiene needs. This may include actions such as:

Bathing/washing
Care of mouth, hair, nails and eyes

Provide support to maintain their elimination needs. This may include actions such as:

Encouraging continence
Emptying urinary catheter bags
Mobilising to toilet or use of commode or bedpan Maintaining hygiene needs after episodes of incontinence

Assist in the delivery of pressure area care. This may include actions such as:

Repositioning of patients as directed
Maintenance of good levels of skin hygiene
Reporting the observed condition of a patient’s skin
Assist in the maintenance of patients nutritional and hydration needs. This may include actions such as:
Assisting patients in the selection of appropriate food and drink
Serving meals and drinks
Report any observed swallowing difficulties to the Registered nurses
Measure and record intake and output accurately

Working for our organisation

The team provides safe and high standards of specialist care to all patients throughout their stay on the respiratory ward as well as assisting in the discharge process, liaising with family members and external agencies.

Level 2 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support or NVQ Level 2 in Care or demonstrate a commitment to work towards the Diploma qualification
Literacy and numeracy Grade 9-4
