Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our Microbiology team.  The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist . You must possess, a relevant professional qualification to degree level or equivalent and previous laboratory experience is essential.

Participation in the weekend, bank holiday, early and late , overnight rotas is compulsory.

The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.  All duties will be performed to a professional standard as directed by the Health and Care Professions Council and Trust/departmental policies and procedures. You will work across a range of sections including the COVID-19 testing laboratories; you will receive support and development throughout training.

Main duties of the job

Assist in the provision of a diagnostic service.  Perform competently a range of laboratory techniques and procedures in one or more section(s) of the Microbiology Department either singly, or as part of a team, that equate to the training and level of responsibility of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered BMS. Supervise support workers, students and other untrained or unqualified staff in the performance of tests according to standard operating procedures. Work flexibly, as part of a team to support the delivery of a 7 days per week service and on call service.  Commence a period of specialism training, culminating in the award of an IBMS Specialist Diploma.

Our two hospitals, The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, provide a wide range of acute hospital services for around half a million people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.  Together the hospitals have over 700 beds and assessment and treatment trolleys across a variety of services.
