We are seeking a highly motivated and committed Midwife with an interest in ultrasound to train as a Midwife Sonographer. This is an excellent opportunity for career development with a permanent position as a Midwife Sonographer on the successful completion of training. They would join our forward thinking team of friendly & supportive professionals in providing a range of fertility, early pregnancy and obstetric ultrasound examinations.

Main duties of the job

The Trainee Midwife Sonographer will work a minimum of 30 hours per week within the Maternity Ultrasound Department during their training period. This will include a university day in term time.

The post holder is expected to undertake the Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound at Birmingham University with the course commencing in September 2024.  The minimum course length is 1 year.

The Trainee will be allocated their own mentor for the training period.

On successful completion of the Certificate/Diploma the Trainee Sonographer may be required to work  a period of Preceptorship to  consolidate their practice.  A minimum post for 30 hours per week as  a Band 7 Midwife Sonographer will be offered with the successful candidate committing to working in the department for a minimum of 2 years post qualification.

We have one main Consultant Unit which is a modern and well equipped facility, along-side a Midwife Led Unit  (MLU) based at Telford. We also have four other MLU’s currently open to outpatient activity.  In total our birth numbers average 4,500 per year.

We are currently working to transform our services in line with Better Births and wider National Maternity ambitions to improve Maternity Services. We have a newly formed Dynamic Senior leadership team in place who are embracing and supporting maternity transformation.
