We are looking to appoint a Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist on a 12 month, fixed term basis to join our team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (with cross site working to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital required, to cover service needs).
Along with your NMC registration and post registration experience within Oncology and/or respiratory, the successful applicant will work within the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Oncology at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust to support the further development of the service for patients who have Lung cancer and Mesothelioma.
The post holder will work with the Lung MDT to develop deliver the service to reflect the needs of patients with Lung cancer and Mesothelioma and benign pleural pathologies throughout the patient pathway in order to ensure the delivery of a high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising, and utilising research.
Main duties of the job
- Take on the role of patient’s key worker.
- Provide emotional and psychological support at key stages in the patient pathway signposting/referring for level 3 and 4 psychological support as necessary.
- Work closely with and refer to, other specialist nurses and appropriate services to co-ordinate seamless transitions of care.
- Ensure effective liaison between the community team, the hospital and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Be a member of the Lung MDT, contributing to discussions regarding individual patients - acting as patient advocate.
- Demonstrate highly effective communication and information sharing with patients, ensuring a variety of modalities of information is available to patients.
- In collaboration with Respiratory Physicians facilitate the Pleural clinic service, empowering patients in decision making, managing symptoms, and providing support and education to patients and staff.

You will work across the Trust and be supported by a team of experienced CNSs to deliver an exceptional standard of nursing care throughout the cancer patient pathway. We work closely with with the wider multidisciplinary team including radiology departments, medical and surgical consultants, clinical nurse specialists, research teams, acute oncology, specialist palliative care, ward nursing teams and administrative teams.
