Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Maternity Services have an exciting opportunity to recruit an experienced midwife to provide strategic supportive leadership to their new innovative Healthy Pregnancy Support Service. The service will be integrated as part of the mainstream midwifery services and will focus on providing support and facilitating pregnant women and their families around making healthy lifestyle choices to promote a healthy safe pregnancy, with a positive outcome and healthy baby. The main aim of the service is to reduce smoking prevalence in pregnancy and the general population by supporting partners and family members. In addition to providing practical advice on how to achieve a healthy diet and maintain a healthy weight gain in pregnancy, encourage the uptake of healthy start vitamins, discuss the benefits of breast feeding and deliver immunisations to pregnant women.

Main duties of the job:

Your leadership role will be to ensure your team delivers a safe, responsive, proactive quality evidenced based service, providing excellent patient focussed support, using up to date national and local guidance and agreed protocols of care. You will be responsible for guiding the service using innovative practice to achieve set targets and key performance indicators, collaborating with multi-disciplinary partners and identifying key partnership opportunities. Be transparent and share information and data using appropriate IT software packages, and able to audit service outcomes and provide reports to identified key partners as directed. In addition, ensure training opportunities are met and that training packages are developed using the latest research to ensure evidence-based information is shared to increase maternity care providers knowledge, skills and confidence.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent effective communication skills, be inclusive and able to motivate your team in their challenging roles and ensure a positive team approach to working is a priority. You will have a current midwifery qualification, preferably studied to a post graduate level in a health development subject or equivalent and have proven experience in delivering a behaviour change service working with pregnant women and families in the community.
